Breeding conditions:

Several short (<2 km) tundra and coastal transects were walked. Active wader breeding territories were observed at higher sites but not on the coastline although Oystercatchers were common. The highest numbers of observed active breeding territories were of Ringed Plover, Golden Plover and Dunlin. Passerine breeding was also observed and well advanced, nests with young of Red-throated Pipit and nests with eggs of Lapland Bunting were found along transects without searching. Arctic Skuas were numerous throughout but no Long-tailed Skuas were observed. Local researchers advised Arctic Skua and Dunlin breeding in progress and indicated no unusual rodent activity observed to date.
